Feeling a little shy? We’ve got a few tips for how to get the convo going to make a few new friends. There’s discovering new music, and a unique space, but there’s also the discovery of community, whether it’s meeting new people in your own city, or in Sofar cities around the world (there are more than 400 of them). Then, there are all your new, music-loving friends. Ben: I’m Ben and I do video stuff for Sofar Vancouver. You never know where an artist might head after they play these intimate spaces, sometimes they go on to become chart-toppers, Oscar winners, or superhero movie stars. Over the last decade, we continued to be blown away by the incredible, jaw-dropping performances that can leave us speechless. Of course, the artists who will blow you away. All you have to do is be up for the adventure. That means you pick the neighborhood, and get ready to step into a unique space, whether it’s a lush backyard full of friendly faces, or that cute clothing spot you’ve been eyeing but haven’t gotten to visit yet. Sofar Sounds reimagines the live event experience through curated, secret performances in more than 400 cities around the world. You don’t know where your Sofar show is going to be until hours before it’s time.

Here are a few of the ways a Sofar show can surprise you. But we can tell you, it’s going to be a new experience every time. It could be an intimate house show in front of a fireplace, an evening surrounded by paintings and sculptures in a museum gallery, or maybe a high-energy night in an amusement park. It’s also possible to catch up on the website and watch a video or two afterward (as with any Sofar show), sure, but – in keeping with the Sofar series’ true ideals – there’s really nothing like being there.You never know what a Sofar night will look like. Some of the usual secrecy still applies to our show, though – the place hasn’t been announced, only the fact that it’s somewhere in Center City. Sofar Sounds (acronym Songs from a Room), is a music events startup company, responsible for various small performances, hosted in over 400 cities. The show will be filled out by spiritual electro-funkster Shamir and the distinctive indie folk of Philly natives (and That Mag staples) Good Old War. All funds will support the multifaceted social-aid work of Amnesty International, and there’ll be chances for anyone to make any other donations they see fit.
